EC2 Resource Utilization Summary Report

The EC2 Resource Utilization Summary report provides CPU utilization statistics for all of the EC2 instances running within AWS.

NOTE: All averages and statistics in the report are measured over the last 30 days unless labelled otherwise.

UtSum

The Summary section of the report shows the average CPU utilization for all EC2 instances over the past 7, 30, and 90 days.

The next section of the report focuses on the number of hours the instances have been running.

Number of Hours Instances Were Running – shows the total number of hours all instances have been running over the past 7, 30, and 90 days.

Number of Hours Running Overutilized – shows the total number of hours all instances have been running with their average CPU utilization too high over the past 7, 30, and 90 days.

Number of Hours Running Underutilized – shows the total number of hours all instances have been running with their average CPU utilization too low over the past 7, 30, and 90 days.

Number of Hours at CPU Level (last 30 days) – shows how many hours all instances have been running between 0-20, 20-40, 40-60, 60-80, 80-100% CPU utilization over the past 30 days.

Average CPU Utilization By Instance Type (previous 7 days) displays a bar graph showing each instance type launched within EC2, and the average CPU utilization for each.

The CPU Utilization Curve shows what percentage of time all instances are running below certain CPU Utilization percentages.  In the example above, all instance’s CPU Utilization is averaging less than 70% for 100% of the time.  40% of the time they are all below 20% CPU Utilization.
